Puglia 7 May to 4 July 2019
You may have wondered where I was
Say no more in my camper with Jolly with a friend Marijke and her 2 dogs in her own camper , on the way to the heel of Italy
via Germany, Austria, Umbria , Abruzzo to the Adriatic and around Puglia to the heel via Gallopolli and Lecce and many other wonderful places, then home with a quick detour through Toscana
6,450 kilometres on the clock
I will not telly my story but share a few culinary moments, in a camper it is difficult to be really visiting special restaurants, our trip was more for the country but we ate well and cooked a lot ourselves in the style of..
Mainly outside on my gas or on my Cobb barbecue
We dined by the sea with food made by the locals and stayed in a camping where we where the only guest apart from the old olives trees near Peschici
We ate on the quay side and met the cooks in Gallipoli
Their fish balls where great
we found a super chef in a small cafe in Monopoli
In Ostuni we stayed in fantastic Olive grove with a B&B, PARKED UP NEXT TO OLIVE TREES 2,000 years old
we dined that night ( thus stayed for Free) in the old music room and had a delicious , simple but pure menu cooked by 5 local ladies unbelievable
we fell in love with Orecchiette (small ear) pasta from Puglia served with a creamy vegetable puree
seems my friend Jean Beddingtons says, that boil the pasta for 3 minutes, turn the heat off add the vegetable, eg broccoli flowers, cover and leave for 10 minutes.
very tasty
We did it with slowly cooked worked fennel, also delicious
even a simple bruschetta in Pienza on our way back was delicious
I could go on forever but I won’t now the summer in Amsterdam is drawing to a close Marijke and I are off to La Belle France for a few weeks
this Photo on the way home , the day before I had taken the wrong route and brought us over the mountains instead of by the Fern Pass
But we are still good friends
Jolly is next to the rollator and the campers in the back ground
See you soon with some recipes
